A very popular group of trees commonly referred to as
Whitebeam and Mountain Ash or Rowan. Easy
to grow in any reasonable soil and mainly
referred to in two main sections; the aria
section includes the Whitebeams and these have
toothed or lobed leaves and are excellent on Chalk
soils. The other types are the Mountain Ash and Rowans
which produce pinnate leaflets. These latter are the best
fruiting types and very much trees for all Seasons.
Sorbus are quite a speciality here at Whispering Trees, we grow
several choice and new introductions of special merit and great beauty.Varieties like Pink Pagoda, Apricot Queen, Copper Kettle and White
Swan are not normally seen and trees of special beauty. All are easily
grown and very hardy and deserve a place in every garden.
aria lutescens 12’ One of the most beautiful Spring trees with the new
leaves covered thickly in a silvery cream fluff. Symmetrical, upright
growth - the Whitebeam.

Ash style and allied to them despite its slightly different classification.
A little stronger growing but neat and upright in habit, this beautiful
and rare hybrid bears distinctive bunches of apricot coloured berries

The vigorous grower nevertheless matures
to a tree of little more than medium size which has handsome bluish
tinted foliage sprays that turns to scarlet in the Autumn. Large
bunches of rose pink berries in drooping clusters, set off by those bluish
leaflets. A very beautiful and graceful tree indeed.

koheneana ‘White Wax’ 6’ A small, almost shrubby Chinese species
which is very valuable with its ultra compact habit and narrow

Lemon Drop 8’ An entirely new type of Sorbus with a quite different
appearance; almost as if a Whitebeam had been crossed with a
traditional Rowan. The medium sized oval leaves have the silvery
