QUERCUS

Of course the Oak family, one of then most important of all tree
families. They appreciate a good deep soil to give of their best but are
quite lime tolerant and will even grow on chalk given a reasonable
depth of top soil. Not all are slow growing and they are of course
effective from the moment they are planted. Did you know there are
actually over 600 species of Oak?!

ilex 8’ The valuable Evergreen or Holm Oak. Slightly spiny, glossy
green silver-backed leaves. Tolerant of shade and sea winds but not
suited to very cold areas.
£23.95 (E)

robur The English Oak, the most famous tree of our countryside. A slow but majestic tree at all stages with character and presence and the single greatest wildlife provider of any tree. £16.50

- Concordia 6’ A very choice selection with leaves of brilliant golden yellow. Site in light shade for the best effect whereupon this can make a magical specimen indeed. Very rarely seen. £33.95

rubra 8’ The Red Oak so called because its large, classically oak-shaped leaves turn brilliant ruby red and scarlet in the Autumn. The new growths during the Summer are also red tinted. One of the most effective specimen trees and a really glorious sight in the Autumn. £20.95
