POPULUS
Well known trees which are mostly too large for the average garden
but find a home as windbreaks and shelter trees. Balsamifera and
candicans aurora can make good garden trees if pruned judiciously.
balsamifera 15’ The Balsam Poplar. Large glossy green leaves, pleasant
but not stunningly attractive. the real reason for growing this tree is for
the wonderful, sweet and almost indescribable aroma which is released
onto the air, being especially strong in the Spring and Autumn, and
during the Summer after it has rained.
£16.50 (F)
candicans aurora 15’+ An ever colourful foliage selection with large
leaves mottled cream and pink. Hard pruning keeps the tree in bounds
and promotes the best colouring.
£15.95
nigra 30’ The black Poplar. A tall, narrow tree tolerant of exposure and
used as a shelter tree for fields and perimeter planting.
