METASEQUIOA
The Dawn Redwood is a very recent discovery and addition to the
plant world and, although tall and fast growing, is a narrow pyramidal
specimen which does not take up too much room and well worth
including in any collection.
glyptostroboides 18’ One of the most sensational discoveries of recent
times in the horticultural world was the discovery of this species in
China in 1941, a tree which had previously only been identified from
fossils hundreds of millions of years old. To the plant world it was
rather like coming across a real living dinosaur. The Dawn Redwood
has, since then, rapidly acclimatized itself to gardens across the
Northern Hemisphere as it is so attractive and easily grown. This fast
growing deciduous Conifer has a unique character and beauty with
long feathery fresh green leaflets wich turn wondrous shades of
autumnal gold, salmon pink and orange. The shaggy cinnamon peeling
bark and elegant conical to pyramidal habit amount to a tree of
paramount beauty. It appreciates a moist soil to grow at its fastest but
is adaptable and totally hardy. Superb for field, parkland and larger
gardens. Highly recommended.
