The every popular Crab Apples that are so
deservedly popular for small gardens. The majority
of our Malus are propagated from Virus Tested Stock
and the difference in terms of colour, habit, vigour and
health just has to be seen to be believed and are truly the finest
stocks available.
If you are planting only one tree in your garden a Malus would
probably be our first recommendation.
They have such a long season of interest
with their Spring flower, often coloured
leaf, a mass display of Autumn fruits
which will last into the Winter and may
be used for suces and jellies. All are very
hardy and easily grown and mostly
naturally small trees tolerant of pruning. Our range includes a great many
beautiful and scarcer selections and new
varieties of special merit as well.
Adirondack 5’ A new and very compact
little variety with wonderfully clean and
healthy bright green foliage. The sparkling white flowers emerge from deep pink buds and set a
prominent display of small scarlet fruits which last and last. A new tree

Butterball 8’ A good bushy headed tree
producing pink flushed white flowers and a
reliably abundant display of ample creamy
butter yellow fruits. Aptly named and
recommended.

Charlottae 8’ An old favourite and a
beautiful small tree. Large shell pink semi
double flowers are probably the most
beautiful of any Malus for individual
beauty and they have a subtle scent of
violets. A rather special variety for a small
garden with its compact habit and
attractive lobed green leaves.

Comptesse de Paris 10’ This very healthy medium sized tree absolutely
covers itself in snow white blossom in April and is valued too for its
oval bright yellow fruits which last and last, well after Christmas on
the tree. A tree with grace and colour, new to our lists and most
promising.

Coral Burst 5’ Not only is this probably the
most naturally dwarf of all the Crabs it also
has the most astonishingly vibrant flowers,
in bud they are a rich coral pink opening to
double deep rose pink blossoms all over the
tree in May. The small bronzey fruits are
insignificant but after such a beautiful floral
display ... An ideal and natural choice for

Everest 8’ A relatively compact tree producing
a great crop of gaily striped orange and yellow
fruits which provide quite a Winter feature.
These appear after the flurry of Spring flower
which is just like appleblossom. Extremely
prolific and with real warmth of colouring, this
is one of our favourites. making a neat round
headed tree. Little disease.

Florentina 9’ This is a neat grower with nicely
scented pure white flowers setting to shiny
scarlet fruits. This little known cultivar is noted for its vivid flame red
Autumn leaf colour and attractively lobed foliage. Well worth finding
a home for and a tree of many attributes! Rarely offered.

floribunda 7’ A popular and well known little tree with long,
somewhat arching branches. The ‘Japanese Crab’ is a flowering
sensation with its crimson buds opening to pale pink/white flowers in
breathtaking abundance. One of the earliest to flower, the fruits are
small and red and yellow.

Golden Gem 8’ A compact, neat grower which is excellent for the
small garden or patio. Abundant fresh pale pink and white flowers and

Golden Hornet 10’ Of all the yellow fruited crab apples this is the
most well known and prolific. A mass display of deep golden fruits

hillierii 7’ A very pleasing small tree with arching branches, flowering
over a long period the flowers are large and crimson in bud opening to
bright pink and carried in profusion. The fruits which follow are small
and scarlet. Suitable for apple pollination.

Hopa 10’ A useful stronger grower which makes a most effective specimen that is outstanding for its contrasting purple leaf and rosy
crimson flower. The rounded Autumn fruits are red and suitable for
jelly making. A very good variety.

John Downie 10’ One of the most popular of
all garden trees. The flowers are pink in bud
opening to white in May. The fruits in the
Autumn are large and bright orange-scarlet
and ideal for preserves. Another suitable
apple pollinator, John Downie makes an
erect tree and it could be claimed that this is
still the best variety of all. The preserves
made from this variety are very refreshing
and the displays of fruit and flower always
impressive.

Laura 6’ A new variety and avery useful compact grower which is
recommended for its vibrant season long colour and compact, neat
growth. Ideal for the patio or restricted area, Laura produces large rose
red flowers in May amongst the newly emerging purple foliage, the two
combining to provide a display of rare colour and harmony. The
rounded purple fruits persist well into the Winter. Good disease
resistance, a very ‘clean’ looking tree which is already rapidly gaining

Prairie Fire 8’ Another new variety, this good upright grower
bears single flowers of rich crimson-wine of unusually deep and
lustrous colouring. Attractive oblong fruits follow and good Autumn
colour. Too new to adequately ‘sing its praises’ as yet as stocks do not
allow, but this could turn out to be one of the most popular of all.

Profusion 10’ An old favourite with lustrous purple foliage providing
an ideal foil for the ‘profusion’ of wine red flowers which are borne in
large clusters. Small Autumn fruits of oxblood red. Mildew can be a
problem but in this improved selection disease resistance is better and

Red Obelisk 8’ This new upright, narrow form from Belgium

Sun Rival 5’ We were the first to introduce
this elegant variety and it still ranks as
amongst the most perfect of weeping trees
with its graceful cascading branches clothed

tchonoskii 12’ Quite different from all the other Malus, this stronger growing specimen tree has downy, somewhat silvered foliage which is
coveted for its incredible Autumn foliage colours which have earned it
the moniker of ‘The Bonfire Tree’ which is certainly most apt. Every
conceivable shade of glowing scarlet orange, flame, golden and purple
on a brilliant and long lasting display deep into the Autumns twilight
days. Sporadic white Spring flowers and some fruits but this specimen
is really grown for its foliage whereupon it is amongst the most
effective of all. Can reach 30’ but the habit is erect and not very

Wisley Crab 10’ The largest known fruits of any ornamental Crab,
these can attain the size and appearance of shiny red desert apples and
can be used for jelly making. Quite a sight as they hang from this
