CORYLUS

The family of Hazels come in several different forms. The basis species is very useful for coppice and woodland planting and a great harbinger of wildlife. Maxima purpurea is valued for its colourful foliage and at its best at the rear of the larger shrub border.

avellana 8’ Our native Hazel. Makes a small multi stemmed tree with pretty Catkins in late Winter. Golden Autumn foliage.
£10.95

avellana contorta 5’ Very slow growing with curious twisted branches
which spiral and twist in all manner of ways. The well known ‘Harry
Lauders Walking stick’, also produces the familiar catkins of the
species. £19.95

avellana contorta Red Majestic 5’ A brand new selection with leaves
which emerge the darkest ruby red. £24.50

colurna 11’ The Turkish Hazel is an interesting, rare and ornamental
species. The striking habit, broad foliage and very conspicuous corky,
ridged bark make for a tree of character which deserves greater appreciation.
£19.95

maxmima purpurea 5’ Very intense colour from the Purple leaved
Filbert, more like a large shrub than a tree ‘though it can reach 10’.
Large rounded leaves, a good contrasting specimen. £12.95
