BETULA
Let the ‘Lady of the Woods’ bring
grace to your garden ....
The Birches are the most elegant of Medium sized
trees and succeed in almost any soil. This large
family of very familiar trees includes smaller steeply weeping
specimens (see youngii, tristis) and then the group which are
grown primarily for their bark and have a taller, more upright
habit (jacquemontii, Snow Queen, etc) Although many of
the Birches will grow into reasonably substantial trees and are hardly
slow growing, they have quite an ‘airy’ habit and generally cast little shade. Read carefully, our range includes several exceptional NEW introductions.
ermanii Polar Bear 12’ Although ultimately no larger than the
species, this selected form of ermanii has a robust, thick, heavy limbed
branch formation which, as the bark peels away to leave a smooth
white, fawn pink and light buff bark, can indeed resemble a Polar Bear!
Choice and new.

nigra 12’ This remarkable species is known as the River Birch and
enjoys being planted in damp ground, beside ponds and streams etc -

to yellow in the Autumn. £22.95

golden yellow Autumn foliage; always a popular and effective tree.
