The Acers cover a very wide range of species and types and include many very beautiful garden Trees. Famed for their foliage, with a wide variety of leaf form and colour, all the listed varieties are deciduous with several examples of wonderful Autumn leaf colour. The family includes Trees of all sizes and the ‘Snakebark’ family are grown for their ornate bark. Most Acers require a good, hearty, soil which does not dry out too easily.
