Welcome to our new online catalogue, a celebration of trees in all their many wondrous forms.

There are of course many reasons for planting trees, some of them obvious, some maybe not so. For many of us, it is quite simple; trees enrich our lives, we want to be near them, beautifying our lives and outlook, adding that special presence to all the loveliest gardens. It could truly be said that no garden is complete without at least one Tree.

Trees provide us with shade and privacy, a place for shelter and relaxation. Many species are great harbingers of wildlife; just one small Tree can encourage birds, insects and small animals that otherwise would not come. The planting of Trees, on whatever scale, helps our environment, fighting pollution and purifying our air. And planting a Tree gives enormous satisfaction, something to be proud of and look forward to as we watch it grow and mature.

Finally, if the generations that follow us are to enjoy the beauty of Trees in all their many wondrous forms as we do then we are the ones that must plant them. If we were all to plant just one small tree……

We are very fortunate to have amassed such a large collection which includes many of the worlds most beautiful specimens, as well as amazing new varieties and rare species. Whatever the scale or intention of your endeavors, we hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

From January 15th 2007 all prices will rise by 10%. This regretably unavoidable increase will be calculated automatically at the checkout.

EVENTUAL HEIGHTS These may differ from those in other publications or books. A lot of information published about this is collected from quite old records; it should remember these are often from Trees growing in the wild which are normally quite a bit larger, also years ago garden trees were grown on rootstocks quite different from those used today. A rootstock will affect the ultimate size of a Tree and with modern advancements in horticultural breeding and expertise some species will not reach the grand heights they once used to. This is of course an advantage in today’s gardens. Also the subject of eventual height is of course very reliant on the age and development of a Tree. We use a 10 year height system as a guide. Most will not stop there; but then Trees seldom stop growing at any stage or age. Many trees can be pruned but this is better done little and often rather than letting it grow and then cutting it back drastically.

TREES IN POTS AND CONTAINERS It has been said that any tree can be grown in a pot. Even the larger species will simply restrict themselves to the available space and can be enjoyed for many years in this way. Ultimately however the smaller the variety the better and some can be kept in a container throughout their lives and will add beauty, character, and a whole new dimension to your patio. We recommend a soil based compost such as John Innes no 2 as this has more heart. Any type of container is suitable as long as it has drainage, the minimum size recommendation for any Tree would be 18x18’’ and of course the larger the better.
